Catanias central train station, Catania Centrale, is one of the busiest in Sicily. It serves the main lines Messina-Syracuse, Catania-Gela, and Catania-Palermo on a daily basis. The Circumetnea, a small, privately-owned train, also stops at the Centrale and goes around Mount Etna, climbing to almost 100 m above sea level before descending back towards the Giarre-Reposto in the north.
